Things To Do ~ Close by and Inexpensive!

 

 

 

We would like to Create a page of things to do within a day's drive or so from our community.  We are looking for things that cost little or no money (or a least reasonably priced).  Our hope is to have a whole page full of topics individuals and families can refer to for new and exciting adventures!

Outdoor Fun / Hiking

  • Know a good place to hike/walk/visit/sight see?  Tell us!

  • Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.  French for "Safe Harbor", this sanctuary for native flora and fauna provides a naturalistic paradise.  Over 6500 acres of coastline.  Fishing, trails, and much more.  12295 State Hwy 180, Gulf Shores, AL

 

  • Fort Morgan ~ Site of historical fort used in War of 1812, The Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World Wars I and II.  Museum, picnic tables, fishing pier, and bird sanctuary.  251-540-7125, 51 Hwy. 180 West, Gulf Shores, AL

 

  • Wales West Arctic Express ~  (www.waleswest.com) 3rd Annual Arctic Express weekdays by appt. Sat. and Sun for families l:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  See the lights, train ride, visit with Santa, hot cocoa & cookies, candy cane and toy.  1-888-569-5337 (One homeowner states:  it's GREAT. Now they have a Bunny Express, and all during the year then set up different theme Train Rides. They have many things for families of small children to do.)

  • Weeks Bay Estuary & Native Pitcher Plant Bog.  Nature Trails, Handicapped-accessible Boardwalk, Hummingbird and Butterfly Gardens, Displays, and more.  251-928-9792 HWY. 98 W. (between Foley & Fairhope)

  • (thetrailblazers.org)  The Baldwin County Trailblazers is a grassroots organization of volunteers whose mission is to establish a countywide network of biking, hiking, jogging trails in partnership with local government.

 

 

Family Fun

  • Sweet Home Cheese Farm.  Since 1987 Sweet Home Farm has been producing over 15 varieties of naturally-aged cheeses with no preservatives. Family owned.  Open Wed-Sat 10 am to 5 pm.  251-986-5663 27107 Schoen Rd., Elberta, AL.

Theatre

 

  • Pensacola Saenger Theatre (www.pensacolasaenger.com) ~  The Saenger currently plays host to Broadway musicals, opera, symphony and ballet.   • Mobile Saenger Theatre.  (www.mobilesaenger.com) Functions as a multi-disciplinary arts center, home of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Lyric Theatre, the Saenger Series, the Summer Movie Series, Etc.   The Saenger Theatre Box Office is open 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, and two hours prior to all ticketed performances.
